In designing your poster…

  • Applying a bigger font size makes it easier for individuals to read your copy from afar and keeping your readers aware of what’s incorporated in your poster. Be sure not to compromise your layout and design for a bigger font size. Experiment and if this is a client project refer to your creative brief.
  • Limit your font or typeface used. Designers and layout artists strongly encourage people and amateur designers to use two to three fonts for your poster designs. This is to give a cohesive design and to avoid distraction to keep the message of the poster as the focal point and not on the different fonts or typefaces used.If you want to use more fonts or typefaces, try experimenting on contrasting and pairing them cleverly. Example: pairing a light font with a bold font or a delicate font with a bold font. Another example is the Vintage Sports Poster design on our list. It uses three fonts but it works because of its similarities and good contrast with sans serif and serif fonts.
  • Color mode. When your design is finished, consider saving your poster design either in CYMK or RGB. If you are to print your poster design, save it in CYMK. If it is going to used or uploaded on the web, save it as RGB. This is done to keep the colors the same as how you planned it to be.

Using typographic elements for your poster designs are a clever way to execute the poster’s message. The Sports Illustrated Poster, Motivational Sports Poster, and Sports Quotes Poster all use dominantly typographic elements and the designs range from retro to handwritten scripts.

The Sports Event Poster is the perfect choice for exciting sports events. It uses a picture window layout giving more emphasis on the red space which you can easily edit the text and still provides a white space for the call of action and mandatory event copy. This design is athletic, bold, and dynamic great for adding up excitement.

We’ve been seeing more and more women compete in sports. To give them more credit and exposure on a dominantly male category, the Sports Black and White Poster is just for that agenda. It has a dynamic take on its layout and the use of a disco like a font suggests femininity, activeness, and fluidity.

We’ve got you covered with our list of retro poster designs to take your design ideas to concepts and give it a flawless execution.
